Who is an ‘international student’?
If you want to study in Australia but do not hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship, and have not been granted Permanent Residence status in Australia, the Commonwealth Government of Australia classifies you as an international student.
You may only enter and remain in Australia as an international student if you hold a valid student visa. Please also note that the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) requires all international students to study full-time.
Experience has shown that such students benefit most from study in Australia when they have completed an undergraduate theological course in their home culture.
The academic year
The academic year is divided into
- Semester 1 (March to June)
- Semester 2 (August to November)
with February often used for intensive courses and July for conferences. The summer break (December – January / February) provides opportunity for travel and summer courses. New students must commence their course of study from the beginning of semester (normally First) and need to be present in Melbourne by early February (or July) so as to be ready to commence study.
